Will you guess where Rida is coming from?

Will you guess where Rida is coming from?

Rida wants to study abroad. HigherEdMe interviews a lot of students in the world about their motivation to go abroad to get a degree. Will you guess where Rida is coming from by reading her answers?

What do you want to study and why? What makes you like your study field?

I want to study the MBA Program. As I am also currently pursuing BBA Hons. I love this field as it broadens the concept of a person. It not only helps in business and corporate world, but also helps in everyday life.

Where are you from and where do you want to go? What do you like in your home country? What are you looking for in the country where you will study?

I am from XXX. And I wish to go abroad, not specified but the preference is European countries. I love my food and culture as it is a blend of different cultures in XXX.

I wish to go and study abroad because it makes a person to pave paths for himself/herself, urges to work on his own. Also it allows to make international corporate networks. Besides this, it creates a sense of self confidence and independence.

What about your hobbies and what do you enjoy doing when you have spare time?

I love travelling. It’s a kind of passion for me.

Also I love to study the great success stories and case studies of the business world. It motivates me and urges me to become one of them.

Is there a personality trait about you that you are proud of? What is it and why?

Empathy. I understand the perspective of the other person. And I think this makes me a problem-solver.

If there is anything you’d like to say to Universities who will see your profile or if you want to add something, feel free to do it.

Students from third-world countries are equally talented and motivated. They just need to be appreciated and given a chance. They’ll become the future ‘Mark Zuckerberg’ and ‘Bill Gates’

If you can go abroad with a friend, which one and why?

My friend YYYY, she is currently persuing Computer Science. But wishes to do MBA in future, as it will prove helpful to her career.

I too want to go with her as it will help me to become more confident and a true companion can also bring the best out of a person.

Meet Paloma, First Student of the month for 2018

I want to be a lawyer, and the main reason why is to be able to find justice for people that don’t have the opportunity.

Where are you from and where do you want to go? What do you like in your home country and what are you looking for in the country where you will study?

I’m from Chile and I would like to the UK. I love my country because it is little and it has everything near to you, the beach, the countryside, the desert and the forest. Now I would like to live the connectivity of a big city and also get to know historical places, such as the Buckingham Palace, the Big Ben, among others.

Tell us more about your hobbies and what do you enjoy doing when you have spare time?

I’m a part-time writer in my spare time. I love to read and to investigate different topics, and also discuss them with specialists so I can get to learn more.

Is there a personality trait about you that you are proud of? What is it and why?

I’m a fast learner. It doesn’t take much time to memorize and apply things, in my personal case. And the reason is because I’m proud of it is that I can work faster than the limit I self impose.

If there is anything you’d like to say to Universities who will see your profile?

If there’s anything you want to know, feel free to ask. I love to learn and I think I can fulfil anything anyone asks me. And I hope you can see me as a beneficial student for your community, because be sure that I’ll always be eagerly asking. Thanks.

If you can go abroad with a friend, which one and why?

Actually, I wouldn’t go abroad with any of my friends. Because I fear that I’ll distract myself from my own responsibilities and I really don’t want that to happen.

Student of the month: Discover Rodrigo from Portugal

Student of the month: Discover Rodrigo from Portugal

Rodrigo Registered This month on our platform and agreed to TAKE our interview. We are happy to share his answers here. Welcome to HigherEdMe Rodrigo!

What do you want to study and why?
What makes you like your study field?

I study psychology. I’ve wanted to become a psychologist since I myself started seeing one. I find the job really fascinating and I believe understanding human behaviour is a really good way to understand people in general. Moreover, I want to be able to help people in the future, so that was also one of my motivations to study psychology.

Where are you from and where do you want to go? What do you like in your home country and what are you looking for in the country where you will study?

I’m from Portugal, more specifically from the Azores. Yes, I live in the middle of the ocean, on an island. I like the fact that it’s a very calm place to live in and that there’s a lot of nice people here. I would love to study abroad, in Italy, because I’m fascinated by Italian cuisine and the Italian culture in general. I absolutely love the Italian language, I’ve studied it for around 3 years now and I’ve really fallen in love with it, having become my favorite language. I want to improve my Italian and being able to mix that with studying psychology would be a dream come true to me.

If there is anything you’d like to say to Universities who will see your profile or if you want to add something, feel free to do it.

I’m just a simple person who is looking for an academic experience abroad. All I want is to be able to discover a different place, be immersed in a totally different culture, study my passion and, hopefully, make lots of friends while I’m studying! One of my dreams is to be able to do that.

I’d like to know more about your hobbies and what what do you enjoy doing when you have spare time?

My hobbies include hanging out with my boyfriend, be it at home or out, listening to music, reading and going to the gym. Sports have always been part of my life; gymnastics and volleyball are among my favorite sports.

Is there a personality trait about you that you are proud of? What is it and why?

One thing I’m very proud of is that I’m a very hardworking person. I always try to do my best and give it my all when I’m working on a project, and studying abroad would be no different.

Bonus question, share the light:

If you can go abroad with a friend, which one and why?
I would love to be able to go abroad with one of my best friends. I actually haven’t thought about anyone in specific, since I’ve never discussed this with anybody, besides my boyfriend and parents. I wouldn’t mind going and enjoying the experience all by myself. It would be no problem at all; I’m sure I’d make lots of friends and get to know a lot of people abroad.

Thomas’s interview

Thomas’s interview

It’s been a while since I last published an interview and I make a strong comeback with Thomas, a resourceful and very motivated student. I think he’ll have a lot of success! Discover him through a few questions.

I’ve seen that you want to study 2D and 3D graphic design and also video making, why is that ?

I’ve always been drawn to the cinema and design industry. I’ve always watched a lot of movies (live movies and animation) and series (like a lot of persons). It’s really rare for me to go to sleep before watching a series episode or a movie. I like to use my imagination to send a message. I’m influenced and inspired by a lot of different universes:

  • The Astronomy. I love to look at photos or watch videos taken from space. I find learning more about the things surrounding us very interesting.
  • The Sports with the giants that are Nike and Adidas.
  • The Urban Culture with US rap (Kendrick Lamar, Travis Scott, Big Sean or even Futuristic) and the sneakers for example (Urban Culture is not only about this but this is what inspire me the most).

I think that today’s technological means enable anyone to create quality content.

Indeed, your aspirations are rather wide. But what is your academic background?

I started to “surf” on the web when I was 13. That is when I registered on a forum talking about graphism. I met a large community where everyone would help each other. I could learn Adobe Photoshop on my own. I learnt how to edit images, do compositing, create logos and so on. It was an amazing experience because I was able to talk with people with whom I am still in touch today, that is to say 8 years later. But it was a hobby. I was working on it after School or during my spare time.

I’ve had a rather unusual academic background. I got an A-Level in science and technology of industry and sustainable development with a specialization in technology innovation. I learnt how to create brand new products. There was a creative side but it was still too industrial, which displeased me. I had to study the materials, the mechanical links and I found that it was too binding and a bummer for my creativity. It was during this degree that I decided to learn digital creation. I loved doing it during my spare time so I asked myself “why not try to make it my daily life and live thanks to it?”

Indeed, it’s hard to understand the link between your A-level and the studies you wanted to follow. So, what did you do?

So I went to study a two-year degree in Multimedia and Internet at the University of Marne-la-Vallée. Coming from Lyon, it was a huge change for me but I wanted to leave the family cocoon. The courses were rather general and I mainly had courses on fields that I was not interested in (but I’d advise these courses for those who are hesitating between the different fields in digital).

That is why I’d like to pursue my studies abroad, in the hope of learning new things but in a different background. I still hesitate to target a field more oriented on design or rather on visual effect.

You said in your HigherEdMe profile that you travelled to different countries. What country did you like the most?

Italy is the best trip I did. I loved Florence. The history of this city has always fascinated me. I really loved the cooking, the kindness of the Italian people but also learning more about the country’s history. What I noticed and what marked me the most is that they drive the way they want to. I witnessed a lot of funny situations.

Interesting! Now let’s talk a little bit more about yourself. What are your most significant character traits?

It’s always hard to describe your ownself. I’d say that I try to make my relatives the happier I can. I think that I am generous in the effort, when I have something to do, I give everything I have. I’m someone who is very discreet but also very impulsive.

Why should a School choose you instead of someone else?

On the professional side, I’m sure of my strength, I like to learn from other people, I like good work. The unknown doesn’t scare me. Moreover, I think that in spite of my young age, I have a certain experience in digital creation. I’m able to work in groups but also to be autonomous.

On the social side, I’ve always had the will to travel, discover new cultures, new people.

If an University trusts me, I do the best to do as well. I have precise goals on my mind and I think that to realise them I’ll have to go abroad. I don’t have any special ties with France.

My relatives know I’ve always seen my future abroad . Now it’s easy to keep in touch with someone wherever you are.

Why did you choose America as a destination?

“The American Dream”. I grew up with Hollywood, Looney Tunes, NBA, etc. I have a very idealistic vision of America. I have many good feedbacks from friends who went there. There is a sport culture that I find to be very extraordinary. Sports are like a religion there and that is very impressive to see the show at every meeting. On a more professional note, there were a lot of design studios in the USA and in Canada. My goal is to be part of one of them. As I would like to work in the 3D creation field or in visual effects, I think it’s the better place to be trained.

Are you open to other destinations ?

The USA and Canada are the two destinations that interest me the most to continue my studies.

Though it is true that Japan and South Korea are two countries that would interest me. It’s rather cliché but I like this mix between tradition and modernity. The multimedia culture is very interesting there, video games and mangas are in everyday’s life.

These are really inspiring. A lot of well-known designer come from there such as Hiroshi Fujiwara who is Japanese and collaborated with Nike and Louis Vuitton for example.

There is also Abu Dhabi, I really like the artificial side of the town. It’s the place of excess. This town is really recent and cosmopolitan. I think there is the possibility to learn a lot of things on a lot of different cultures.

What is your biggest dream?

I’ve learnt the hard way that talking too much about one’s project could harm. So I’ll remain neutral on this question 🙂

I really liked his interview so I had to share it with you. We can feel the passion in his words and I hope he’ll get study abroad offers soon. If you want to discover his work, visit Behance

Discover Amine, a student registered on our platform

Amine is currently working in a multinational company and wishes to go back to his studies. Wanting to study Computer Science in Europe, he registered on our platform in order to get study abroad offers. As he sounded very motivated, I decided to interview him and he was pleased to answer my questions.

  • [HigherEdMe] You want to study Computer Science in Europe. Why do you think Europe is the best place for you to do so?

I chose Europe because it is known for its excellent Schools in Computer Science and their advanced technologies. Also they are in relation with big companies where I think I can improve my skills during my studies thanks to internships. On the other hand, as a Moroccan, I’m open to European culture and I would like to study in this environment full of knowledge and experiences that will complete my education. Moreover, as part of my job, I’m often in France, Spain, Belgium and Holland and it helped me get an overall idea on life there. Socializing with students, interns and professionals has made me want to pursue my studies in Europe.

  • [HigherEdMe] You seem to know what you are talking about! Computer Science opens a lot of doors. What job would you like to do with your future degree?

I have a penchant for everything that has to do with information system and what I liked the most was the management of computing project, managed operations and computer system integration. What I would love would be to combine technique and management just like the previous subject areas I mentioned.

  • [HigherEdMe] You sound pretty motivated. But what would you study if you couldn’t study Computer Science?

Then I would study Management because I have a special outlook for my future career : later on, my goal is to work in this field. I consider it as an art but also as a science and it can’t be practiced without any knowledge or studies beforehand even if, in my mind, I should keep up with responsibilities.

  •  [HigherEdMe] What would your dream School be like?

The School of my dreams is a place where the practice would verify the theory. By this, I mean we could practice what we learn instead of directly moving onto the next thing. Each step or module should be applied to a practical case, once it’s done we could be able to learn other things. Every learning should be acquired this way. My dream School should also have a program based on experiences and knowledge of the past but would also follow new trends and, above all, enable to grasp the future of teaching.

  • [HigherEdMe] It seems like a nice program. Now I’d like to learn more about you. What do you like to do when you have spare time?

I’m ambitious, pragmatic, I love simplicity (it is the source of happiness). My relatives say I’m a perfectionist and an idealist but also very funny. I like having people around and getting to know new people. (The knowledge of faces is treasure : Arab proverb. I love reading books, travelling and I’m also really interested in associative work.

  • [HigherEdMe] Thank you very much for this really interesting interview. Do you have something to add?

Thanks a lot to Universities for their efforts and thanks to you for your work.

  • Thanks to you for answering my questions and good luck with your study abroad project!

Kristina is the Student of the Month!

Kristina is the Student of the Month!

At HigherEdMe, we are always looking for motivated students. That is why I decided to get in touch with Kristina, whose profile was really interesting as she was quoting Saint Augustine. She was nice enough to let me interview her and I really thank her for that.

[HigherEdMe] You want to study medicine in the UK. Why did you choose the United Kingdom to study in your field?

[Kristina] I’ve always been interested in studying medicine. When I had to write where I wanted to study it in my profile, I said in the UK because I think that is one of most competitive places to learn medicine. But I actually wouldn’t mind any country that would give me opportunities to learn things that I can’t learn here in Montenegro.

I love my country but because it’s small and because we don’t have big population I won’t get to see and learn many things that I would be able to learn in the UK or any other big country.

So to answer your question, it’s not the UK but the opportunities that such a big country with such big universities can give me, that interest me the most.

When I was little I always told my parents that I would travel and see the world, that is like my second dream. In my country, there is a saying that goes : ’’Svuda podji ali kuci dodji”, it means :’’Travel everywhere but in the end come home’’.

It’s one of my ambitions in life : I want to travel everywhere and see many things, meet different people and see their traditions because I’m a little old-fashioned and I love traditions. I’d love to learn different things and then come back to my country and make a difference here because I think we need more people to come back after going away.

[HigherEdMe] Medicine can lead to a lot of different jobs, what job would you like to study it for? And why?

[Kristina] As far as I remember, whenever someone asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up, I always said doctor. At first, I didn’t really know what being a doctor really meant and when I started high school I finally discovered what it really meant.

Being a doctor is not just some fancy job that gets you respect from others but I really want to help other people, people like an old lady that is abused by her family and has to go to the hospital. I saw that lady and I will never get that image out of my head.

As for what field in medicine I want to study in, I still haven’t decided and I think that it’s early to decide now (I really like kids so maybe pediatrics).

[HigherEdMe] If you couldn’t study medicine, what other fields would you like to be in?

[Kristina] I don’t know what else I would study. I mean I worked so hard to get where I’m today and always with one goal in mind and that is to be a doctor one day. My family always encouraged me to do what I really love and I love medicine.

[HigherEdMe] What would your dream school be like?

[Kristina]   I would describe my dream school as a very big school where many people of different origins, religions, cultures and countries study and get to learn everything about each other. I could go on about this forever.

[HigherEdMe] I’d like to know more about your hobbies and what gets you excited. What do you enjoy doing when you have spare time?

[Kristina] I love reading and whenever I can get a little time I read. When I was in high school I always had different projects (Organ Transplantation, Hypnosis, Multiple Personality Disorder and so on) and I loved doing every single one of them.

I also organized many school events. Some of them were : The Open Door Day, The Language Day, The Diabetes Day… And one of the things that gave me a lot of satisfaction is volunteering for the Red Cross with my best friend.

[HigherEdMe] Is there a personality trait about you that you are proud of? What is it and why?

[Kristina] I’m very persistent and I won’t give up no matter what happens.

[HigherEdMe] If there is anything you’d like to say to Universities who will see your profile or if you want to add something, feel free to do it.

[Kristina] I don’t know if you liked my profile but don’t judge me before you meet me!

Thanks again to Kristina for her wonderful interview! If you want to create your study abroad project just like her, you should create an account on our platform here. And if it’s already done and you want to get the chance to be even more noticed by Schools by getting interviewed, contact me on Facebook!
