Interview with Noura

About Noura study abroad project

What do you want to study and why?

I’ve always dreamt of working as a scientist in labs and discovering cures for refractory diseases. So, I’d love to have an opportunity to train in medical research laboratories and if they are specialised in Brain sciences or cancer immunology it would be even greater as these two fields are what I am most passionate about.

Where are you from and where do you want to go?

I am from Egypt , from a small town named ”Mansoura”.. the best thing about Egypt in general is that practically every square inch of it is filled with ancient treasures and monuments. The country has many amazing and beautiful sites and the people are welcoming and kind. I am hoping to get to study in the United Kingdom, particularly in Edinburgh since I’ve always wanted to visit Scotland- the home of J. k. Rowling :)- and Edinburgh University has the Centre for Brain Sciences Discovery and that’s where I’d love to train.

El Mansoura (Arabic: المنصورة, al-manṣūrah) is a city in Egypt, with a population of 420,000. It is the capital of the Dakahlia Governorate. Mansoura lies on the east bank of the Damietta branch of the Nile, in the Delta region. Mansoura is about 120 km northeast of Cairo. Across from the city, on the opposite bank of the Nile, is the town of Talkha. Mansoura and Talkha together form a metropolitan city.

Tell us more about you

What do you enjoy doing when you have spare time?

I really love reading English novels, they are calming and help me dissociate when I am having lots of things that are stressing me. I also enjoy listening to Pop music. Coldplay is my favourite band. Sometimes I like to workout at home or go to the gym but unfortunately, I didn’t get to do much of that in the last few years due to my extremely busy schedule during my academic years in the Medicine school.

Is there a personality trait about you that you are proud of?

One thing I like having is perseverance. I don’t give up easily and I always do my best and search for ways to achieve my goals. Living in a bureaucratic country, that is saying much! Because every trip or conference you’d like to go on, every training abroad that you’d want to participate in, has to be planned months prior to its date and you will have to go through many obstacles by the clerics and the governmental offices.

A message for the higher education institutions

If there is anything you’d like to say to Universities who will see your profile?

Please accept me to be your student. I am nothing but studious, hardworking and eager to learn. I will do my best to make you proud of giving me this opportunity.

If you can go abroad with a friend?

I have two friends that come to mind. Both are like sisters to me. Their names are Sara and Nehal. They are ambitious and they have goals similar to mine so I know they would love to go abroad with me.
